Pulau Tioman,
Pahang, Malaysia
Pulau Tioman, 30km east of Mersing has long been one of Malaysia’s
popular holiday islands. According to legend the origins of this place
lie in the flight of a dragon princess who fell in love with the
surrounding waters and decided to settle there permanently by
transforming her body into an island. The twin peaks, Tioman’s famous
landmarks are said to resemble the ears of the legendary princess. In
the 1970’s Tioman was voted as one of the ten most beautiful islands
in the world by Time magazine. Tioman was also chosen as the film
location for the well known musical “South Pacific”.
